Dragon's Well Green Tea

Toasty, floral, opulent, highest grade Long Jing tea

The Story

Our green tea is nothing less than the world-renowned, authentic Long Jing from a village near Hangzhou, China. Most of our supply is the premium, first spring picking, before the Qing Ming Festival (when we sell out of the first spring picking batch, we sell the second picking, right after the Quing Ming Festival, and the quality is still outstanding). The picking standard is one bud and two leaves. The tea is laboriously hand-harvested and hand-processed using centuries-old local, artisanal techniques. It is a loose whole leaf and bud tea (the leaves are not ripped, chopped, or powdered). No pesticides were used on this tea.

The photos here are not of just any green tea farm, but of the farm our tea comes from. Just like with our chrysanthemum tea, Ava sent her in-laws to find a truly great quality Dragon's Well for us. The family traveled to the farm personally, translated Ava's pages of questions, obtained satisfactory answers, and bought the first batch of tea for us. And they took these breathtaking photos.

Quality tea is brewed many times in China, not just once. That is because the tea leaves are so full of flavor, and also out of respect for the specialness of the tea and its artisanal production. We recommend brewing Long Jing tea up to four times. It is so easy to brew: just sprinkle a few leaves into a cup or mug and brew for a minute or two. The whole leaves stay intact and eventually settle toward the bottom, so the tea can be enjoyed unstrained.

I just made a pot of the green tea. It is truly some of the best green tea we have ever drunk. It is delicious. Much better (smoother and more delicately flavored) than that which we had! Can't wait to drink more of it.

Properties

We are offering this high-grade green tea to encourage our skincare customers to drink tea as an incredible skin-enhancing supplement loaded with antioxidants. Green tea is known to increase immunity, and it has a cooling influence on the body, reducing inflammation that may appear as reddened acne or cold-sore outbreaks, rosacea, or rashes.

Tea is considered the most important herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the only one that should be consumed daily. It is believed to have a balancing effect on the body and mind. Whereas coffee dehydrates the body and stimulates the adrenal fight-or-flight response, therefore depleting the adrenals and accelerating aging, this lightly caffeinated tea calms the mind and is believed to actually increase longevity. And the overall low caffeine content of this tea allows one to enjoy the healthy antioxidants without compromising sleep quality.

Flavor

Long Jing has a fuller flavor than most green teas, with notes of toasted soybeans and florals (unlike most green teas, which are perceived as light-flavored and usually grassy). The flavor of our Long Jing is fresh-green and round. This tea is very low in astringents.

Ingredients

Loose buds and whole leaves of Camellia sinensis. Gluten free.

Origin

The Hangzhou countryside, Zhejiang China.

Directions

Measure out ½ to 2 tablespoons of tea leaves (4 to 5 grams per 12 fl oz/354 ml of water) and place inside a teapot, tea mug, or French press. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of filtered cold water to your prepared leaves, then top off filtered, freshly boiled water (this is to approximate the ideal brewing temperature for this tea, 185 degrees F/85 degrees C). Steep, covered, for 1 to 2 minutes only, then strain if desired. The same tea leaves may be brewed up to four times.

Green teas are the freshest for one year from harvest. To extend freshness, store your green tea in an an airtight glass or porcelain container away from light exposure or in the refrigerator.

We hand-package each batch of tea in clear bags made of natural cellulose. The bags are made from wood grown in sustainably managed plantations and are marine degradable and certified compostable.

Freshness guaranteed for 12 months. Full size 71 g (2.5 oz).

Due to the very high cost of our ingredients and the labor-intensive (highly time consuming) small-batch production process, we are unable to accept returns of opened or unopened products at this time.

Best tea

As I am someone who drinks green tea all day every day I just had to try this. And it’s so good! It’s pricey but like Ava says on the site you can use the leaves multiples times, which I do and it works. It’s hard to describe the flavour but one thing that comes to mind immediately is “subtle”. Even my non tea drinking husband is loving it! My only complaint would be it’s currently sold out, I want to reorder!!
