New release: February 2017
All of us here at Earthwise Beauty, whether transplants to eastern Washington or born and raised here, are filled to bursting with awe of the forests and meadows of the Pacific Northwest. Back in August 2016, Ava set out to develop a product that allows everyone to experience the mood, the scents, and the essence of the nature here.
This body oil in our regular fashion had to be something carefully developed and attended to from every angle, from the nourishing properties and, most important, the scent, to the feel, texture, color, and energetic message.
For the base blend of oils and one butter, Ava chose medicinal and nutrient-rich ingredients—some of which rarely make an appearance in products for the whole body; for us it was essential that this body oil heals, repairs, softens, hydrates, firms, smooths, and is an oil we never tire of.
There is a large percentage of whole-fruit rosehip oil here (extracted not just from the seeds, but also from the fruit itself) that contributes a plethora of skin-enhancing benefits with its high dose of phytonutrients (including vitamin C) that improve skin elasticity, promote healthy and even coloring, and reduce scars. And it can't hurt that our specially sourced rosehip oil smells softly of both wild roses and fruity rosehips.
Cranberry oil is antioxidant rich (especially tocotrienols, a form of vitamin E) and is extremely hydrating, lightweight, and fast absorbing, making it a great complement to some of the thicker and slower-absorbing oils in this blend for a multi-faceted body oil formula. On another level, it felt important to include cranberry oil because we have wild cranberries growing in our part of the country too.
Our own hand-gathered wild mullein leaves were dried in the sun and then infused in highest-quality unrefined extra-virgin olive oil for skin nourishing, wrinkle-reducing, elasticity-enhancing, and softening properties.
Cocoa-colored medicinal bacuri butter is one of the most healing butters we have ever encountered, used by folk healers in Brazil for almost every skin disorder, from eczema and dermatitis to irritation and wound healing, and even for joint pain. It contributes a scent that is reminiscent of fertile soil, hay, and moss, with penetrating, hydrating, soothing, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Our Indian tamanu oil is lighter than some tamanus from other parts of the world. It has a dramatic midnight-blue color and a sweet, rounded, and only lightly nutty scent. Tamanu heals skin tissue on all levels and also enhances the texture of this blend, making it pleasantly waxy and substantial (as opposed to sticky, oily, or liquidy).
The scent is comprised of spring and summer wildflowers that grow in the meadows here. An extremely rare Indian rose with a delicate and somewhat green scent stands in to represent our local wild pink (Wood's) roses (this is a rose for people who don't even like roses, a delicate, exquisite, ethereal scent; nothing heavy or opulent). Then we added white yarrow and yellow Canada goldenrod. To represent the woods, we tracked down ponderosa pine, and added artisanally distilled white pine, silver pine, giant fir, balsam fir, and black spruce oils, and then we added one grounding cedar oil to represent the red cedars growing in our surroundings. A lichen absolute contributes scents of tree barks, mosses, and dry earth.
The unique, contemporary scent of the Pacific Northwest Body Oil is probably a touch lighter than what you expect. We took great care to balance the sweeter, delicate scents of roses and cranberries and not allow them to get suppressed by too much of the woody elements (if a scent is heavy in woods and needle scents, it comes across as barky and cold). We also aimed for a scent one is drawn to day after day, not too opulent or perfumey but earthy, comforting, a scent you welcome again and again at the end of a long day.
Healing properties: while we originally set out to make a body oil for normal to dry skin, the final composition ended up including several ingredients that are healing to eczema and psoriasis (bacuri, wooly mullein, conifer needles) and signs of skin aging (rosehip, rose, cranberry, tamanu, cedar), as well replenishing the adrenals (particularly black spruce, cedar, pines, and firs).
Color: brown in the bottle, it is a golden, almost coppery yellow when applied to the skin.
Energy vibrations: we chose many ingredients anchored in our natural habitat. The oil is energetically warming, nurturing, centering, replenishing, and grounding (many will be particularly drawn to it during the colder months, a time of resting and recharging; but it also feels great to use after a long work day in spring and summer).
On the emotional level, this oil is healing to the first chakra (the tree oils; 1st chakra being about safety, stability, childhood) and to the heart chakra (celery, rose; trauma, wounds in the heart). We place each batch of the body oil in our ponderosa pine forest to be charged by the earth and the energy of these majestic trees.
Cruelty free, vegan, handcrafted, 100% natural, preservative-free.
For all skin types, especially dry, very dry, mature, eczema, psoriasis, and for a transdermal delivery of essential oils to replenish adrenals (tone kidney qi). Use with caution during pregnancy.
Extra-virgin cold-press unrefined Olea europaea (olive) oil* and wildcrafted Verbascum thapsus (woolly mullein) leaves, cold-press unrefined Helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil*, organic cold-press unrefined whole-fruit Rosa canina (rosehip) oil, cold-press unrefined Calophyllum inophyllum (tamanu) oil (India)*, wildcrafted cold-press unrefined Moringa oleifera oil (India), wildcrafted cold-press unrefined Platonia insignis (bacuri) butter (Brazil), cold-press unrefined cranberry oil*, Canada goldenrod oil*, black spruce oil*, wildcrafted Pinus ponderosa pine oil, white pine oil*, silver pine oil*, wildcrafted giant fir oil, balsam fir oil*, Rosa bourbonia absolute or organic rose Moroc absolute (depending on avilability), organic celery CO2 Total extract, wildcrafted Atlantic cedar oil, yarrow oil*, cold-press unrefined jojoba oil*, wildcrafted oakmoss absolute (from the lichen Evernia prunastri, IFRA compliant/nonsensitizing).
Test a small amount of the oil on your skin rather than just smelling it from the bottle to get a true idea of the scent. Massage into damp skin after a shower or a bath for a whole-body treatment. You can dilute single-use amounts of the oil in a ceramic dish with a little fresh, organic, grassy-scented olive oil if you prefer even lighter scents or would like your bottle to last you as long as possible; unrefined moringa oil is another excellent complement to this blend in terms of the scent and is another great option if you would like to dilute this potent potion and render it a touch lighter. Allow a few minutes for the oil to absorb. In addition, use as needed on skin areas with eczema, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, or stubborn dryness. Apply undiluted on the kidney and lower back area and as a temple and wrist oil once or twice a day (or more often) to replenish adrenals or help relieve exhaustion or burnout.
Filled to the brim. Freshness guaranteed for 6 months. Full size 4.25 fl. oz. (125 ml) with a second optional closure, a pump. Sample 1 fl. oz. (30 ml), which is enough for about three all-over body uses, with a pump closure.
You may request a free 0.25 fl. oz. sample with your order of other products, but note that the tiny sample will give you an idea of the scent, texture, thickness, and color, but will not be enough for a whole body application.
Due to the very high cost of our ingredients and the labor-intensive (highly time consuming) small-batch production process, we are unable to accept returns of opened or unopened products at this time. But most products have a sample size option for purchase, so we encourage you to buy a sample first to ensure that the product suits your skin's needs and that you enjoy the texture, fragrance, and healing properties.
