Ruby Face Oil

Lightweight daytime face oil

The Story

Ruby Face Oil is fruitiness and an antioxidant punch in an extremely lightweight, powerfully hydrating oil base, appropriate for all skin types, from acne-prone and oily to dry, sensitive, and sun-damaged skin.

While this is an incredible multitasking oil when used alone, particularly for daytime use in the warmer seasons, our main goal was to offer a face oil that would work perfectly with Farizad's Veil Sun Reflector. This zinc-oxide-based sun shield creates a lotion when mixed with a facial oil, and the lotion is lighter and most appealing to use during hot summer months if the oil of choice is just like Ruby: lightweight, hydrating, and low on emollients, with a liquid consistency. You can use a generous amount of Ruby and your skin will never feel oily, just more hydrated.

We began testing this oil early in the summer of 2016, and as usual it took a while to get the multifaceted results that we were after. We tested several suppliers of guava, raspberry, and cranberry oils before we found the freshness, scents, and truly unrefined status that we were seeking. We tested this oil combined with Farizad's Veil powder in the summer heat of Arizona and Washington and found it offered lasting hydration, fast absorption, and very little weight.

Benefits

For this light facial oil, we focused on antioxidant-rich oils, many of which carry their own sun-protective qualities (for example, the buriti and pequi oils). Others are wrinkle-reducing and sun-damage-correcting (raspberry, buriti, rosehip, primrose), and there is a large group of noncomedogenic oils particularly recommended for skin types prone to congestion (milk thistle, guava, rosehip, cranberry). Glow is enhanced with pequi and guava oils, skin firmness improved with buriti, pequi, and rosehip oils, skin elasticity enhanced with raspberry, rosehip, and cranberry oils and sunflower-derived vitamin E. Turmeric CO2 extract and whole-plant celery CO2 reduce inflammation.

This oil has a very light scent of guava fruit, pequi fruit (which itself reminds us of pineapples and passionfruit), and rosehips with a minimal addition of the bliss-inducing, extremely relaxing mimosa flower. There are no essential oils added, making this oil highly suitable for sensitive skin types (the mimosa flower scent component comes from an artisanally prepared absolute, not an essential oil, and is used in an extremely minimal amount: 0.02%). The color is orange, but it is nonstaining.

How does this face oil compare to the other facial oils we offer?

Ruby Face Oil is one of our beststellers, a light yet powerful and nonirritating oil that absorbs very fast, is noncomedogenic, and feels very light even on a hot and humid day. It is one of our top choices for sun damage repair and for treatment of scars.

Magical Babassu Face Oil is the most emollient of our facial oils. It is most appropriate for dry to very dry skin, sensitive skin, winter skin, and eczema, alone or mixed with Ferns and Moss Serum (for maximum healing and repair) or Ruby Face Oil (for added phytonutrients and firming benefits).

Black Locust Face Oil (coming soon!) is another rich oil we offer that feels quite active and is also noncomedogenic. Black Locust is focused on firming, pore minimizing, and maintaining hydration throughout the day or night, while Magical Babassu is more geared toward softening the skin and soothing irritations in sensitive skin.

Ferns and Moss Serum is thicker than Black Locust, but it is a dry oil (Magical Babassu and Black Locust are not dry oils: they are emollient). Ferns and Moss includes anti-acne ingredients.

If you are deciding between Magical Babassu and Ferns and Moss Serum, choose Magical Babassu if dryness and sensitive skin are your top concerns, but choose Ferns and Moss Serum if you are foremost seeking healing and repair and your skin is congestion prone.

For dry and damaged or dry and mature skin, you may want to test all our oils. Ruby is most popular in the summer months and Magical Babassu, Ferns and Moss, and Black Locust are most popular in the colder months.

Ruby Oil + Barite Rose

On an energetic level, our Ruby face oil resonates with the heart (fourth) chakra, and for this reason we infuse this oil with rubies. The heart chakra is about love (among other things) and about feelings of utter safety when we are loved unconditionally, when we are fully accepted as we are. One other crystal that has these healing properties is the rose-shaped barite (these shapes are created entirely by nature; each rose is carefully retrieved from the earth and cleaned so as not to damage the petals). We are offering a few of these perfect nature creations for sale alongside a bottle of Ruby oil. Display the barite on your vanity or bedside table. Place it for a few hours under the sun or overnight under the full moon to charge it periodically, but protect the barite from rain, snow, or water because it may melt (a few gems do melt in water). You can also place your barite in a bowl filled with unpurified salt for a few hours or longer to cleanse it and charge it.

Hands down my favourite EWB oil. I fell in love with the ingredient list immediately and Ruby really impressed me. I love that it contains so many beautiful antioxidant-rich and non-comedogenic oils, and also because some of the oils have some sun-protective qualities… and I simply adore it's gorgeous rich colour, the lightweight texture, the softening and brightening benefits, and of course it pairs beautifully with the Farizad's Veil Sun Protective Powder. Ruby is special and makes my skin very happy.

Holy grail product

I’ve been in love from the moment I caught a whif of this fragrant oil. What stands out to me the most about it is the addition of celery CO2 essential oil. Celery gets a tone of buzz about being somewhat of a miracle cure for skin & gut issues so I know for a fact it packs a punch when combating acne & other inflammatory skin issues. I simply cannot go on without this oil. It’s the perfect summer time oil & mixes perfectly with the Farazad’s veil spf.

Glorious

Like other users, I have tried many oils in the past that have broken me out. A dear beauty blogger friend was determined to find me an oil that would suit my skin as she thoroughly enjoyed them. Alas, my skin rejected them again. I swore to myself to stick to my beauty routine that was oil free and safe. In my purchase from EWB I was gifted a sample of the ruby oil. I almost gave it to my mum thinking 'this will break me out, i can't do oils', but MY GOODNESS, I DON'T BREAK OUT. I use this in the morning everyday with farizards veil and it heals my acne and smooths out my skin, I couldn't be happier. Thank you EWB

First face oil I can use long term without getting flakes or congestion!

My skin is combination/oily with large pores in my t-zone, but it's easily dehydrated by over-cleansing or under moisturizing. It tends toward congestion. I realized several years ago that oil cleansers and facial oils helped my pores appear cleaner and smaller, and my skin smoother and clearer. But most oils (and unfortunately most products in general) would either break me out or cause flakiness when I used them consistently over time. Add in my desire for anti-aging benefits as I reach my mid-forties, and my frustration with skincare has been epic!

Ruby is the first oil that I can use on a twice daily on a regular basis! Generously, even! It's subtly brightening, light, and is just making my skin look better each day as I've used it for the past month. Many of my longterm tiny clogged pores have gone away. It calms my skin and accelerates healing. The scent of celery greens & guava is unexpected but fresh and lovely. I plan to buy some for my sister and best friend because I'm so in love with it!

I'm still experimenting with the other products I ordered samples of. I test slowly due to my annoyingly disagreeable skin, but Tigress in particular seems promising, too. Ava's formula's strike me as thoughtful and unusual even within the green beauty space. This is obviously my own personal preference, but I like her emphasis on detailed ingredient choices, quality, and sophisticated plant knowledge vs the aspirational luxe aesthetic of many other lines. The ingredient lists of many products out there are often very similar to each other. You can't say the same for Ava's, but you also don't get the impression that she's being different just for the sake of it. I also appreciate that she offers products suitable for more sensitive or reactive skins that don't tolerate the popular handful of essential oils very well.

All in all, Ruby is a star product for me that has become a staple. I'm so thrilled that I stumbled onto a blog post reviewing Earthwise Beauty!

Easily absorbed

Absorb fast and light weight. Not get used to the smell but still ok for me.

The best summer facial oil

I saw several YT reviews praising this oil, so it piqued my interest. I was most attracted to the ingredients, especially the well- thought combination of oils. My favorites are the sacha inchi, pequi and raspberry seed oil. The facial oil is very light, absorbs very quickly and makes my skin feel velvet soft. It is a perfect oil for warmer seasons. I've tried it as a standalone oil, in a combination with the Nap in the Meadow, the Ambrosia del Cerrado (mixed in or layered) and the Tigress Balm (great combinations during cooler months). It worked great with all combinations. This showed me just how versatile the oil is and that I can combine it depending on what my skin needs on a particular day. I'm more of a intuitive skincare user, which means the products I use change/rotate every day. I love this oils and I can no longer see myself without it. The scent is unique. I have never had a facial oil that its primary scent is celery :). It does not bother me, but sometimes it can linger for couple of hours. It is more of an issue why I can still smell it, instead of having an unusual scent.. Overall, it is a great facial oil that I would recommend to people with all skin types, primarily to combination/oily skin.
