One of my all time favourite facial oils and one I struggle to live without...super hydrating, anti-inflammatory, soothes irritation, supports and nourishes delicate skin and fine lines. With a sweet scent of tangerine and lemon essential oils and the colour of the sun, it provides a burst of enlightenment to each day… I am obsessed with this and use it every morning to set my skin up for the day!
This product was originally inspired by a boldly orange-colored soap Ava used to make that contained a generous dose of unrefined red palm oil and was scented with blood orange peel essential oil. Not only was that soap irresistible thanks to its color and scent, it turned out to be very helpful with stubborn inflammatory “red” skin conditions, especially eczema and rosacea.
While we cannot afford to make soap for sale anymore (our soaps were exorbitantly expensive to make because we were loading them with so many amazing plant oils and butters), Ava could not get the healing powers of unrefined palm oil (more on this below) out of her head!
This is a fast-absorbing, velveteen-feel facial oil for daily use in any season. One unique feature of this facial oil is that it can be used for daytime, under makeup or alone. If used alone, it gives the skin a satiny feel and a healthy, radiant appearance. Some also mix it with powdered mineral makeup, creating a cream foundation.
It is a simple, supportive formula, making it ideal for those times when your skin needs a break. Once you become seasoned at using many different skin care products, including more powerful, serious treatment products like our Carrot-a-Day Serum (literally loaded with skin regenerating carrot seed oil, plus other anti-aging and anti-acne ingredients), you may find that after a period of using them and experiencing the deeper skin-makeover results you had been after, you want to give your skin a rest. Tangerine Skies is the perfect product for such a time. It feels like a light yet highly energizing fresh food.
Tangerine Skies is also very popular among those who have dry or mature skin but still enjoy a facial oil that is relatively light and refreshing. It is also great as a leave-in, shine-inducing hair conditioner, especially for dry, thicker, and coarser hair types (start with very little and experiment whether it is best for your hair when used on dry or damp hair; throughout or just on the ends).
The scent is a balanced, refreshing, and uplifting melissa-tangerine with a complementary underlayer of coconut. The consistency of the oil will be liquid or semi-liquid depending on the ambient temperature.
Tangerine Skies provides almost instant, lasting hydration (most important for younger users, under 40–45, who may not have deep wrinkles or sagging, yet look dehydrated right in the outer skin layer) without shine. The skin looks healthier, better nourished, and firmer, and areas of redness are calmed and less noticeable, with a healthy coloring and glow. The skin also feels softer and smoother.
Many of our formulas do have lots of ingredients, but this one is mysteriously simple. It relies on a wonderful synergy of “antioxidant powerhouse” red palm oil (orangutan-habitat-safe), cooling coconut oil (virgin, organic, unrefined, cold-press), hydrating golden jojoba oil, and a few essential oils chosen for their broad-range skin-rejuvenating, firming, brightening, and anti-inflammatory topical effects.
The highest-quality, so-orange-it-is-almost-red virgin palm oil from North Africa used in this product contains the highest amount of carotenes (beta-carotene and lycopene) in the plant kingdom, plus vitamin E and precious antioxidants named tocotrienols, which have 60 times the power of vitamin E.
We find precursors of vitamin A (carotenes) and of vitamin E (tocotrienols) to be more bioavailable than the actual vitamins, so when added to skin care products, they act in a milder and somehow more natural way on the skin; they beautify without the risk of irritation, peeling, allergic reactions, or photosensitization.
One note on the citrus oils included in this formula: both the tangerine oil and lemon oils are used in tiny amounts (well under 1%). Tangerine oil is nonphotosensitizing, and the amount of lemon oil is so tiny (1.4 drops per our full size, 1.2 fl. oz. jar), the risk of photosensitizing is incredibly small—in fact, many of our customers combine Tangerine Skies with our Farizad's Veil SPF 30+ Powderfor reliable sun protection. Our own tests in the very bright Eastern Washington summer sun also showed no instances of sunburn or sunspots from use of Tangerine Skies on our faces for daytime on a daily basis for a month.
How does this face oil compare to the other facial oils we offer?
Tangerine Skies is a nice middle-ground oil, most suitable for normal, acne-prone, and combination skin types for all seasons. It is a touch more emollient and creamier than Ruby Facial Oil, and can be mixed or alternated with Ruby for an even lighter feel and a wider range of nutrients in the warmer summer months. Tangerine Skies and Green Leaves & Co. Oil have light astringent action, closing up pores without being drying. Tangerine Skies and Ruby are firming.
For acne-prone skin types, our first choices are Green Leaves & Co. and Ferns and Moss Face Serum, but Tangerine Skies is also suitable, especially if your concerns are sun spots or scars. For very dry and mature skin types, Ferns and Moss Face Serum and Magical Babassu Facial Oil are our first recommendations because they are both two steps more emollient than Tangerine Skies. Ferns and Moss repairs and renews, while Magical Babassu hydrates, softens, and smooths.
Certified cruelty free, vegan, handcrafted, 100% natural, preservative free.
For all skin types, from acne and oily to combination, normal, and dry (except perhaps for skin that is at once very dry and mature—that type may need something richer). We highly recommend this product for people who are highly reactive to most cosmetic ingredients and need the purest, preservative-free, chemical-free products, and for skin types with a tendency toward inflammation. An excellent daily (or twice daily) facial care oil for anyone under 45.
For brown-spot sufferers: for faster improvement of brown spots and scars, we recommend Carrot-a-Day Serum as the first choice; however, this facial oil will also steadily work on discolorations and scars (including post-acne scars) in the mildest of manners (we have seen great improvement within 4 weeks of daily use). Many people find that even though they do not tolerate retinol or even vitamin A in their skin care products, they do very well with other carotene ingredients such as this traditionally pressed palm oil (pressed without the use of any solvents or chemical processes).

Limited Edition: Tangerine Skies + Tangerine Quartz
We have sourced a few natural, untreated, raw tangerine quartz points of beautiful radiance yet with amazing clarity. We are offering for purchase alongside a bottle of Tangerine Skies Oil a few sets of three of these pieces enclosed in a velvet bag (sizes and shapes as in the photo). Tangerine quartz is a natural formation (not manmade). It brings a smile to one's face, uplifts the mood during times of darkness, gloom, and through long, dark winters.
Due to the very high cost of our ingredients and the labor-intensive (highly time consuming) small-batch production process, we are unable to accept returns of opened or unopened products at this time. But most products have a sample size option for purchase, so we encourage you to buy a sample first to ensure that the product suits your skin's needs and that you enjoy the texture, fragrance, and healing properties.
