The Story
For many skincare connoisseurs, the search for a favorite, truly beautiful, balanced, infinitely complex rose face mist can be a lifelong endeavor. And there are so many different rose species that rose mists can range in scent—depending on the maker's favorite perfume direction, they can be icy cool and powdery, soft and ethereal, spicy and assertive, or richly floral. For our rose mist, we aimed for the scent of a rose still damp from the morning dew: delicate and green, then revealing its notes of apricot and rounded rose, then ending with slight hints of black pepper. Our rose water is somewhat mossy, yet fresh and sweet as well. The scent dissipates quickly rather than lingering.
The key ingredient in Three Roses is a rose extract from Turkey. When creating this product, Ava was inspired by the oral tradition of Turkish fairly tales from thousands of years ago, fairy tales that are still told and retold in Turkey today. The tales abound in adventures in pursuit of eternal love and of happiness. The young maidens are sometimes hidden from dangers by their brothers or admirers up in a tree or among grasses, so much like the way a doe hides her fawn when she must step away to take care of important business. Many young men in these tales make mistakes in their haste and immaturity. Sisters are often wise and steady; fairies help the men and women who are good-hearted, well-intentioned, yet destined to err. Animals, such as stags and nightingales, speak in human tongue to advise the humble heroes or heroines, who are receptive to others' input. Arrogance and greed are always punished. High value is placed on mortal love between a woman and man, and on seeking to find the heart's happiness.
While today we may journey to college to seek education or secure a career, the Turkish heroes and heroines journeyed when their hearts were restless or unsatisfied. People became ill from unhappiness, and to get better, they didn't wait in bed for a rescuer or a repairer; instead, they set off on a journey to find their happiness and being very sociable, they often went with a friend or another companion. There is lots of long-distance traveling going on in these tales as a means to get answers, find oneself, and test one's courage and skills. One other heartwarming trend in these fairy tales is that the old nurse or kindly stepfather is often invited to live with the newlyweds in their palace to assure their comfort, peace, nourishment, and company in their frail old age.
Benefits
Rose water is one of the most beloved skincare products of all time. Our swoon-worthy version contains botanical waters from Turkish and Iranian roses, resulting in a vibrant, multilayered, 100 percent natural rose scent.
Rose extracts: We have used a combination of rose essential oils, a rose absolute, and a rose flower essence, as each type offers different benefits. The rose essential oil, the most expensive essential oil in the world, is known for its many topical skin benefits and has a quickly dissipating scent. The absolute adds scent depth and complexity and has been studied for antidepressant properties. Rose extracts have been proven in many studies to be highly antioxidant, antimicrobial (particularly antifungal), anti-inflammatory, and analgesic, and they are also astringent. The wild rose flower essence adds an element of vibrational healing: Wild rose essence is used to assuage grief and disappointment in love. Our extracts are all made by hand by artisan distillers.
Aloe leaf juice: A high percentage (10 percent) of cold-press organic whole-leaf aloe juice has been added for its skin-cell reparative, antimicrobial, anti-acne, and cooling properties.
Colloidal silver: The silver extract acts as a preservative, but the higher-than-typical percentage (we are using 10%) used renders it an active ingredient. We like the broadly antimicrobial yet nondrying qualities of colloidal silver, which we find powerful for acne, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis tendencies. Silver is also cooling and improves surface circulation.
Resveratrol: This extract from wildcrafted U.S. Japanese knotweed is a powerful antioxidant, and it also reduces inflammation, prevents collagen loss, and decreases hyperpigmentation. Japanese knotweed is an example of an invasive plant, nonnative to the U.S., that turned out to be medicinal. Hence, it can be grown with ease or harvested in the wild without threat (and in fact with benefit) to the ecosystems, and then extracted and put to good use by herbalists or skincare formulators for its health-enhancing benefits. There are more and more studies being conducted to explore the wide range of benefits this plant offers; one of its current internal uses by naturopaths and integrative medicine doctors is for the treatment of Lyme disease and its co-infections.
Ferulic acid: This well-regarded antioxidant is clinically proven to protect the skin from UV damage. Our U.S.-made ferulic acid is derived from rice bran.
Gold spring water: We infuse the different rose extracts in natural spring water from the Golden Hawk Mountains in Romania. This water crosses underground silver and gold ore deposits, so it contains lab-test-proven traces of colloidal gold and silver, which both enhance the water's healing properties. Colloidal gold is associated with anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic properties, while colloidal silver is known for its antimicrobial and detoxifying effects. This multiple-award-winning water also naturally contains relatively high levels of calcium and magnesium. One more reason we chose this water above the many others that we tested is that it is packaged in glass bottles.
The Scent and Energetic Impact
This mist is enriched with a flower essence made from our local Spokane wild pink forest rose, the Wood's rose. This flower essence helps soothe and heal the heart from past hurts and helps us open to new love and forgiveness.

Directions
Mist over freshly cleansed skin morning and night, then follow with your moisturizer of choice. If you would like to attune to the vibrational healing elements from the wild rose flower essence, spray above your head 3 to 4 times a day and meditate for a moment, if time allows. Shake periodically to remix.
